NEW CONSTRUCTION - GLEN PARK BRANCH

As part of the bond measure overwhelmingly passed by the voters in November 2000, the San Francisco Public Library is replacing the Glen Park Branch Library. The Glen Park Branch is currently located in a small leased facility at 653 Chenery Street. A new Branch is under construction for the Glen Park community as part of the Glen Park Market Place on Diamond and Wilder streets.

Highlights of the new branch include: Expanded collections of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs & other materials, a program room, expanded children’s area, a designated Teen Area, wireless access to the internet, more computers, more functional staff areas, natural light, and a variety of seating choices.

The Glen Park Marketplace broke ground September 1, 2004. The new library is scheduled to open October 13, 2007. The total library project budget is approximately $5.5 million, not including furniture and equipment.

The Glen Park Branch is also included in the Branch Library Improvement Program Arts Master Plan. The Glen Park Branch Community Artist Selection Panel selected artists Reddy Lieb and Linda Raysford to create art for the new branch. They are creating a wall sculpture for the entryway of the new branch.

The Friends of the San Francisco Public Library are raising funds from private donations for new furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the branch library. For information on the Glen Park neighborhood campaign, contact marian.ctaylor@friendssfpl.org.
