Board of Supervisors and Other Board Committee DVDs and Videotapes

The San Francisco Public Main Library holds DVDs of recent Board of Supervisors meetings that can be borrowed using a San Francisco Public Library card. These include Board of Supervisors meetings beginning with SFGTV Cable Channel 26 broadcasts that took place from one to three weeks ago and go back approximately 6 months. These DVDs are located on the 1st Floor of the Main Library. [For details, see below.]

Not all visually-recorded meetings of San Francisco City and County committees, boards, commissions, etc., are sent to San Francisco Public Library to be made available for borrowing. SFGTV (formerly CityWatch) holds DVDs currently made going back about one year.

The Public Library also holds historic reference (to be viewed in the Library) copies of Board of Supervisors DVDs and videotapes beginning approximately one year ago and going back to February, 1999. These can be requested at the Government Information Center on the 5th Floor of the Main Library. [For details, see below.]

The generic term, "Board of Supervisors meetings" is used to refer to meetings of either the various committees of the Board of Supervisors (such as the Finance Committee) or meetings of the full Board of Supervisors.

Note: Board committees usually change titles every two years (when the Board President changes). Some committees change annually.

DVDs for Borrowing

Approximately one to three weeks after the initial broadcast of Board of Supervisors meetings, SFGTV brings DVDs of the meetings to San Francisco Public Library. The DVDs are made available for borrowing at the Audiovisual Center located on the First Floor of the Main Library, 100 Larkin Street, and are held there for approximately 6 months. Not all meeting DVDs are given to San Francisco Public Library.

A list of Board of Supervisors DVDs for borrowing is available in the library's online Catalog; however, these DVDs cannot be reserved online. If the online Catalog indicates that a DVD is likely available because of a "CHECK SHELF" status, you may call the Audiovisual Center at 557-4515 and ask staff to do a "shelf check" and to hold the item for you if it is available. Not all DVDs are available since they may have been borrowed by other patrons.

DVDs can be borrowed for 7 days using a SFPL library card. A maximum of 6 Board of Supervisors DVDs can be borrowed at one time.

In-Library-Use Historical Collection of Board of Supervisors Meetings

The Government Information Center on the 5th floor of the Main Library stores historic DVDs and videotapes of Board of Supervisors & Board committee meetings (donated by SFGTV).

Holdings are generally from February 1999 through approximately one year ago. Call the GIC for holdings: 415-557-4500 .

Historic DVDs and videotapes of Board of Supervisors meetings can only be viewed in the library (reference only). The ADA room on the 5th Floor will be made available for viewing these Board meeting DVDs and videos only. If another person is in the room using the ADA PC, then the person viewing the DVD or video will be asked to use earphones.
