Western Addition Branch Library History

Western Addition Branch Library was opened June 27, 1966 as the 27th branch established in the San Francisco Public Library system. The building was designed by architects Appleton & Wolfard and built at the cost of $244,000. The newly restored library opened on February 2nd, 2008. The total project cost was $4.3 million. It features a new and expanded teen area, updated children’s room, a new program room, a landscaped courtyard, more computers and free Wi-Fi access to the Internet. The renovation also features seismic retrofitting and ergonomically redesigned staff work areas. The Branch occupies a site on the edge of Hamilton Playground at the corner of Scott Street and Geary Boulevard.
