Ingleside Branch Library History

Ingleside Branch Library, the 11th branch established in the San Francisco Public Library system, was opened in 1925. The area was previously served by a “library station.” The station was located in various successive locations, including 422 Holloway Avenue and 1612 Ocean Avenue. Prior to May 2000, Ingleside Branch was located at 387 Ashton Avenue. Ingleside Branch moved to a leased location, a former Bank of America Building, at 1649 Ocean at Faxon Avenue, on May 30, 2001.

The current location of Ingleside Branch Library, 1298 Ocean, at Plymouth, is a new building. The branch opened on September 12, 2009 and became the 11th library project to be completed under the Branch Library Improvement Program, the November 2000 ballot measure resoundingly passed by the voters of San Francisco.
