Crafts Program - Children & Teens

Soul Collage® is a process, developed by Seena B. Frost, of creating a deck of collaged cards from found images. Lauren Owenmark, art educator and art therapist, will facilitate this fun and enlightening workshop during which you will create your own SoulCollage® card for the primary purpose of self-exploration.  Space is limited, please sign up in advance at the library or call 355-2810.

Come and learn how to make a flower kusudama out of paper! Literally translated as "medicine ball," kusudamas are paper spheres that are made by sewing or gluing folded pieces of paper together. All materials will be provided. Everyone is invited to attend. Instructions will only be in English.

GoGo Craft will teach you how to make a customized tote bag that is perfect for carrying your library books or shopping at your local farmer’s market. Appliqué a cotton tote with San Francisco images like the Golden Gate Bridge, cable car, or your favorite landmark. Bring your own Bag or use one of ours. Materials, tips, and tricks provided.

Let mobile craft workshop, GoGo Craft, show you how a shrunken sweater can be turned into a pair of cozy fingerless gloves.  Not too handy with a sewing machine?  Not to worry!  This low sew project can be completed with our patterns and just a needle and thread.   Shrunken sweaters provided.  Ages 13 and up.

San Francisco Public Library is proud to announce the launch of the Teen LEGO Robotics program. At this workshop teens and tweens will learn how to assemble a motorized LEGO robot and to program it to do various actions such as follow the sound of your handclap!

Jeweler extraordinaire, Chelsee Robinson, will guide you in learning the latest techniques and applications.  Work with real stones, crystals, beads and more to create a beautiful necklace, bracelet or earrings.  All materials provided.  Space is limited.

Make your own bag out of a t-shirt.  You will learn how to cut up a t-shirt and make a very stylish fringe bag perfect for toting groceries or your libary books!  Bring your own t-shirt or use one we provide.

Blue Jeans Bike Bag

GoGo Craft will show you how to take an old pair of jeans and transform them into a cool bag for your bike.  This bag is made entirely from items that you can find at any thrift store or in the back of your closet.  Biking not your thing?  Not a problem, turn your jeans into a shoulder bag.  Then learn how to decorate your bag with simple stamps that you can make yourself.  Bring your own pair of straight leg jeans and 2 belts, or use some of ours.  This workshop is for makers of any skill level.  Ages 13 and up.

Mobile Movie Making!

A TILT filmamking workshop for teens.

In this workshop, teens will learn the craft of movie making and will make their own one minute movie using the skills they acquire. These skills include camera basics and composition, video pre-production and planning, video production, and editing. Teens will go home with their own self produced movie! All equipment provided.

Ages 12-18.
