NOTICE OF MEETING
A regular meeting of the San Francisco Public Library Commission will be held as follows:
DATE: Thursday, October 5, 2006
TIME: 4:00 p.m.
PLACE: Koret Auditorium, Main Library, lower level
The meeting will be called to order.
1. PUBLIC COMMENT
(This item is to allow members of the public to comment generally on matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for the Library Commission’s consideration.)
2. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES ACTION
Presentation and discussion of, and possible action to approve the minutes of the regular Library Commission meeting of September 7, 2006.

3. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY REPORT DISCUSSION
(This item is to allow the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library to inform the Commission of their current and proposed activities.).
4. BROOKS WALKER PATENT & TRADEMARK CENTER DISCUSSION Presentation on and discussion of the Library’s Brooks Walker Patent and Trademark Center by Librarian Cella Mitchell.
5. PUBLIC SAFETY PLAN DISCUSSION
Presentation on findings from Main Library staff survey, staff focus groups, and patron surveys as part of the Library’s Public Safety Plan.

6. CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT by City Librarian Luis Herrera DISCUSSION
(This item is to allow the City Librarian to report on recent Library activities and make announcements)
The City Librarian will report on the following topics: announcement regarding the appointment of the Deputy City Librarian; revised information regarding acquisition procedures for out of print books; opening of International Center at the Presidio Branch Library; update on reading center at the new Juvenile Hall; update on Main Library Fulton Street landscape project; and highlights of exhibitions and programs
7. LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETINGS SCHEDULE 2007 ACTION
Presentation of, discussion of, and possible action to approve a proposed schedule for regular Public Library Commission Meetings during 2007.

8. TRIBUTE TO THE LIBRARY COMMISSION SECRETARY ACTION
Presentation of and possible action to approve a resolution commending and thanking Mike Housh for his nine years of service and contributions to the San Francisco Public Library as Library Commission Secretary.
9. LABOR UNION REPORT
(This item is to allow members of library labor organizations to report on employee matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for the Library Commission’s consideration.)
10. NEW BUSINESS
(This item is to allow Commissioners to introduce new agenda items for consideration.)
